Program

Chess relies on logical thinking, spatial relations and problem solving skills.  For every child taking our program we aim to provide a foundation in the basics and principles of sound chess play.  This is done by introducing key concepts of Opening, Middle game and Endgame strategies in brief demonstrations for the entire class.  There follows interactive evaluations over the board, as students play each other or work in small groups with an Instructor.  Further reinforcement is provided in the form of work sheets and related puzzles handed out in class.  These are then reviewed and appraised by our outstanding staff of experienced instructors (see About – Coaching Staff)

While we’re concerned with the facility of every child as a chess player, we’re also teachers committed to improving the minds and general thinking abilities of all who take our courses.  Chess is a wonderfully intriguing game, with rich history and textured culture. Studies have shown that the game’s qualities have significant transference to other disciplines.

In teaching chess, we understand that we are also improving concentration, instilling a sensitivity for logical sequence, developing parallel and analogous reasoning tools, increasing analytic technique and vision, establishing heuristic constructs and layered problem solving capability, inspiring pride, self confidence and generally creating mentally stronger and more resilient intellects – the kind of positive tough-mindedness needed to succeed both professionally and personally.
